The Neck Lump Clinic is a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider. We’ll accurately diagnose patients’ neck lumps in just one visit, significantly reducing the long wait times that can be experienced by patients.
The team at Allevia Head & Neck is committed to eliminating delays in diagnosis and we work together to deliver the best possible care for our patients. Our clinics remove the need for multiple appointments, providing assessment and treatment plans in a single appointment. In addition to our Epsom location, the Neck Lump Clinic is now also available in Takapuna.
We pride ourselves on meeting international best practices with an excellent standard of care. Our multidisciplinary team is highly experienced in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of neck lumps.
Instead of multiple appointments at different places over several weeks, we aim to provide a full diagnosis and a treatment plan in one 45-minute visit. This also means if treatment is required, it can start sooner.
We provide a complete neck ultrasound and, if necessary, an immediate ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirate biopsy. We report the results of the pathology on the spot.
At Allevia Head and Neck, we have surgeons, nurse specialists, dietitians, radiologists and pathologists who offer an end-to end service. We can also support referrals to other allied health professionals who may be helpful for patient recovery.

Some of our most frequently asked questions are provided for your convenience. If you have a question we haven't answered, please contact us.
We will conduct an ultrasound to look at the lump. If the images show anything that we'd like to investigate further, we may suggest a fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. A FNA biopsy is when a thin needle passes through the skin and retrieves a small sample of cells. This is a less invasive way of investigating the tissue compared to surgery.
In most cases, we will have a diagnosis within the 45 minute appointment at the Neck Lump Clinic.
All patients will have a consultation with the clinician at the end of the 45-minute appointment. This includes a discussion of the results and what this means. If the results show a confirmed cancer diagnosis, the clinician will discuss potential treatment options and answer any questions.
Not all neck lumps will require treatment. The need for treatment will be determined by the cause of the neck lump. At the Neck Lump Clinic, the ultrasound images and possible biopsy will support the Head and Neck specialist to make an informed evaluation of what this cause may be. If treatment is required, the specialist doctor will discuss the best treatment option(s) with the patient.
