Southern Cross Health Insurance members on eligible health insurance plans will have fully funded access to diagnostic and treatment services at The Prostate Clinic. For more information, please see the 'Insurance and Payments' section below.

Terms and conditions apply, see details below.
The Prostate Clinic will arrange rapid access to MRI, biopsy (if required), urologist and nurse specialist appointments, minimising the number of appointments and reducing waiting times.
A multidisciplinary team of urologists, radiologists, radiation and medical oncologists, physiotherapists, and nurse specialists will work together to ensure the best possible treatment option and support is provided.
As part of the journey, we want patients to have an active role in decision making. They will have the option of having a consultation with different treatment providers and a nurse specialist to make an informed decision that is best for them.
From 1 September 2024, Southern Cross Health Insurance is funding a two-year pilot which will provide fully-funded access to diagnostic and treatment services through The Prostate Clinic for Southern Cross members on eligible health insurance plans, who have given consent to take part in the pilot. All health insurance plans qualify, except HealthEssentials.
Eligible members will be required to fund their own travel and accommodation to access The Prostate Clinic in Auckland.
Non-Southern Cross Health Insurance members should contact their insurer directly to confirm access to The Prostate Clinic. For a quote, they can reach The Prostate Clinic team on [email protected].

The Prostate Clinic provides a fast-tracked comprehensive diagnostic service, reducing the need for multiple appointments. This enables patients to have fast access to MRI, biopsy, biopsy results, a treatment plan (if diagnosed), and our dedicated team of urologists and nurse specialist.
Our highly-experienced team of urologists from the Urology Institute at OneSixOne Medical Group provides a seamless team approach to managing patient care.
A biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure performed by one of our urologists and involves taking tissue samples from the prostate gland to determine if prostate cancer is present. The biopsy is a day-stay procedure.
Local or general anaesthetic is injected to ensure the procedure is painless. During the procedure, a urologist inserts a needle through the skin between the scrotum and anus (the perineum) to reach the prostate, guided by ultrasound for precision. A sample of tissue is collected, and the needle is then withdrawn. The procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete.
